Giving Tuesday

 NMHOA is participating in the “Giving Tuesday” campaign again this year and we hope that our members and friends will give generously to NMHOA at this time.

As you know, “Giving Tuesday” happens on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – so this year it will be on Tuesday December 1.  The concept has been around for four years and it is a way for conscientious people to give to the charities/non-profit organizations of their choice in response to “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” – the big holiday shopping days of the year.

So why does NMHOA need you to participate in “Giving Tuesday”?

NMHOA is the national membership organization for some of the most vulnerable homeowners in the country – families who own their homes but rent the land under them and reside in manufactured housing communities (commonly called “mobile home parks”) – can lose their equity and find themselves homeless whenever that land is sold for other purposes.

NMHOA works across the country to support homeowners as they unite to protect their homes and preserve their communities – some specific examples from across the country in 2015 include:
  • Manufactured Housing Summit in Suffolk County, NY – 180 homeowners meeting on a snowy Saturday to address unsanitary living conditions and egregious acts by their landlords – result – immediate attention from city officials forcing landlords to follow the law.
  • Meetings with predominantly Latino homeowners in Des Moines, WA – working with homeowners to help them save their homes after they were issued notice that their park was closing and helping others establish a strong HOA to counter manager abuse.
  • Working with homeowners in the City of Boulder’s three manufactured housing communities to help address landlord abuses – result - successful passage of local ordinance to hold landlords more accountable and to ensure older homes being sold, still have value.
  • Representing homeowners on HUD’s Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee to ensure new homes are built to the highest quality health and safety standards while still maintaining affordability for seniors and young families just starting out on the homeownership ladder.

NMHOA is 15 years old this year so we hope to raise $15,000 through the “Giving Tuesday” campaign.

Please give generously so that NMHOA can continue to support homeowners across the country as together we ensure manufactured housing is part of the solution to the affordable housing crisis.

Your gift of any amount will make a difference. For instance, a gift of the following amounts would:

$25 – Help an individual homeowner to stay in their home;

$50 – Support NMHOA’s outreach and education programs;

$100 – Assist homeowners to form their own association to be a collective voice to address issues within their community (many home owners are very fearful of retaliation and need NMHOA’s assistance to get their HOA started);

$250 – Provide training for homeowners to testify at public hearings to ensure passage of local ordinances/state statutes to protect and enhance their rights;

$ other – Allow NMHOA to build capacity to reach homeowners in states where we are not yet making a difference.

Click on the DONATE button below or send a check made out to NMHOA to:
PO Box 22346
Seattle WA 98122 – 0346

You do not need to wait until December 1 to make your donation – any donations made now and through December 1 will be counted as part of the “Giving Tuesday” campaign.
